RULES/REGULATIONS

Check-in/Registration Table when you arrive, please sign in at the registration table so we can account for you, and you can receive your nametag and provide your donation (cash or food item)

Event Location and Start Times!
Come early to prepare, sign in, and bring your donation (9 am). The official event starts at 10 am and should be completely finished by 1:00 pm Location: Pearce Estate Park, Calgary, AB,

Parking And Directions
Parking is free, parking in and around the park is limited, and is on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you can please, try to carpool. There are bus routes please see the Getting There page on our website.

Walking With Children (pushchairs, strollers, and wheelchairs)
Participants under the age of 13 are required to be accompanied by a participating adult (18+). Everyone must register their names at our check-in table. Wheelchairs, strollers, and pushchairs are permitted. The terrain may vary. (Hills, roads, pathways, grass, unpaved areas).

Safety First
All walkers/runners please keep to the right when participating. If walking/running with small children hold your child's hand at on the onset of the walk. If you need assistance on the course look for event volunteers and ask for assistance.

All participants walk at their own risk!! Be aware of your surroundings and others on the route. Please respect the flow of traffic as you walk in support of John's Journey Walk Foundations Annual Walk Event.

PLEASE STAY TO THE DESIGNATED SIDE OF THE WALK PATH TO ENSURE THAT NO ONE IS IMPEDED AS THIS IS A SHARED CITY WALK PATH AND THERE ARE SEVERAL TYPES OF USES INCLUDING BICYCLES, SCOOTERS, SKATEBOARDS, ETC.. IF YOU ARE A LARGER GROUP PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU ARE NOT BLOCKING THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE PATHWAY. CYCLISTS OR OTHER MODES OF TRANSPORT MAY NOT WARN YOU THEY ARE APPROACHING, BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS AS YOU WALK.

Covid-19
Your health and safety are a priority at live events. We continue to follow Alberta Health Services for updates and guidelines to help us prepare. Please read the following important precautions and measures we are taking to prevent the risk of COVID-19 spread:

  • Ensure that there is distance for smaller groups so that we have less density, and safe physical distancing.

  • To prevent common touchpoints, we will not be providing bag check, portable toilets, seating, tables, or additional activities.

  • Participants must be healthy and not show any COVID-19 symptoms (cough, fever, shortness of breath, runny nose, or sore throat, even if symptoms appear mild or resemble a cold).

  • Please complete a self-assessment prior to arriving at the event. Participants showing any symptoms must not attend the event. If you exhibit COVID-19 symptoms at the event, you will be asked to promptly return home.

Failure to leave the event site will result in event postponement/cancellation.

  • Utilize personal protective methods (coughing and sneezing etiquette, hand hygiene). Spitting is not allowed. Have tissues handy and dispose of them in the trash bins located at the event.

  • Faster participants: Please keep to the right and allow two meters of space when passing other runners or trail users.

  • Slower participants and participants with strollers, please keep to the right. We strongly encourage you to: Wash your hands frequently, bring hand sanitizer, bring your own water bottle, and always maintain two meters of physical distance from others. and while you are not running or walking.

  • Public restrooms may not be available at the event site. Arrive prior to the event so that you can be ready or participate in the activities prior to the walk.

  • If you need assistance on the course, please look for race volunteers and ask for assistance.

Event Cancellation
Events can be canceled for many reasons: extreme rain, wind, lightning, storms, or pandemics. The most common reason for cancellation is weather. Our cancellation policy is as follows:

  • Cancellation notification- Participants and volunteers will be notified of the decision to cancel the event due to an extreme reason via online social media sites.

Weather Policies
John’s Journey Walk will go ahead rain, shine, or snow if it is considered safe to so. If there is severe weather such as lightning, extreme winds, and rain, the event will first be delayed until the weather clears, postponed until the next day, rescheduled for another day, or cancelled altogether.
We reserve the right to modify elements of the event or course to deal with any safety concerns, delay, postpone, or cancel the event. We do not want to cancel the event; however, we may be required to cancel the event.

Pets

If you are bringing your pet to the event, please be aware that all pets must be on a leash in the park and on the route at all times.
